![]() Chihiro Kawasaki Contemporary dancer | Performing artist Pilates instructor | Aikido (Japanese martial art) Born in Kyoto, Japan, trained in ballet at A&S Ballet in Kyoto before solely moving to the UK to have professional dance training at age of 14. After completing four years at The Arts Educational School, Tring (now called Tring Park,) Chihiro went on to gain a Certificate in Contemporary Dance at London Contemporary Dance School [LCDS]. Upon graduating in 2005, Chihiro gained a scholarship from LCDS and joined Henri Oguike Dance Company [HODC] as part of LCDS's apprentice scheme where she became a full time company member touring extensively throughout the UK and internationally including in USA, China, Israel and Switzerland performing at many international festivals such as : Jacob Pillow Dance Festival, STEP dance festival and Holland Dance Festival. After the 10 years anniversary tour with HODC, Chihiro went on to join Phoenix Dace Theatre [PDT] in Leeds working with various choreographers including Philip Taylor, Ana Luján Sánchez, Richard Wherlock, Isira Makuloluwe and Aletta Collins. She then left PDT and has been working as a freelance dancer working with various artists and choreographers such as Alexander Whitley, Hetain Patel, Paolo Mangiola, Kerry Nicholls, Hofesh Schetcher, Ramin Gray, Simon Stephens and Enuki Dance, and also as a rehearsal director with KAONASHI dance company. Chihiro is currently working with James Cousins Company touring world wide including Brazil, SE Asia and Chile. Chihiro is a qualified Pilates instructor certified by Alan Herdman Pilates and also a practitioner and assistant instructor of Shodokan Aikido. Interested in the potential combination and relationship in dance and martial arts, Chihiro took a year off dancing before coming to the UK to study Ryukyu Shaolin Karate entering world championships and has won several national competition in Shodokan Aikido since taking up in 2007. |
